Whatever be his moods, and whatever the quality of his performance, he is never awkward, and elegance of form in any literary matter popularly interesting is so uncommon that gratitude and admiration are widespread and intense in proportion. Now that he is finding this out, it is not surprising that he should take advantage of it, and give pleasure to his numerous admirers as frequently and with as little trouble to himself as possible. It is impertinent to pry into the state of Mr. Hope's soul to see if it is growing demoralised by easy triumphs, but it is quite justifiable to say that a little more effort than is to be found in this book is wanted to keep to the estimate which some sincere but discreet admirers have formed of his powers.      Peregrine's Progress

"Nineteen to-day, is he!" said my uncle Jervas, viewing me languidly through his quizzing-glass. "How confoundedly the years flit! Nineteen—and on me soul, our poor youth looks as if he hadn't a single gentlemanly vice to bless himself with!" "Not one, Jervas, my boy," quoth my uncle George, shaking his comely head at me. "Not one, begad, and that's the dooce of it! It seems he don't swear, he don't drink, he don't gamble, he don't make love, he don't even—" "Don't, George," exclaimed my aunt Julia in her sternest tone, her handsome face flushed, her stately back very rigid. "Don't what, Julia?"

    Rhea - Prequel

      John Stevenson
     Rhea - Prequel

This short story is a prequel to the Company Wars Chronicle, and over time it will become a longer work that will tell what was never revealed in the series. When I first imagined The Company Wars Chronicle, it was to be based around the life of Alexi Davanoff; alongside him are number of other characters of which Rhea is one. Like all fictional characters: and many of us in real life, Alexi needed someone in particular who could bring out the parts of him that he kept hidden; Rhea was to Alexi the woman who took his heart and never gave it back, but there was more to Rhea than just being a lost love.
