    Until Leo

My body melted into the mattress. Between the strength of my orgasm and the crazy day I’d had, I was completely drained. Leo had to use all his strength to pull me into his arms when he rolled onto his back because I was limp with exhaustion.

“I’m not sure what’s gonna happen after all the shit that went down today, but I’m thrilled as fuck I’m going to face it with you by my side. Hearing you say you love me was the silver lining to a god-awful day.”

As my eyes drifted shut, I promised myself I’d be sure to tell Leo I loved him every day. Just in case.

      Epilogue

      Leo

It was amazing how much my life had changed in the last year. Jenna was in jail serving a three-year sentence for her misdemeanor criminal threat, assault, and child endangerment convictions. When the cops who arrested her got their hands on the security footage of her car in the parking lot while she’d been in the building accosting Carrie, it’d shown Lynn sitting in the backseat with headphones over her ears while she played on the iPad I’d bought her for Christmas.

Even seeing it with my own eyes, I’d had a hard time believing she’d put our baby girl at risk like that. She’d fucked me over by cheating with Dan, but I’d still thought she was a good mom. I learned my lesson, though. She was a shit mom, and once I wised up I did what needed to be done to ensure she stayed out of my baby girl’s life. I gave what she’d really been after all along—a cash settlement. It’d barely made a dent into my inheritance, but I would’ve paid ten times the amount if it meant I didn’t have to worry about that bitch popping in and out of Lynn’s life after she was released from jail.

The transition was hard for my daughter, but the woman walking towards me in a lacy white dress had made it easier on her. Carrie understood what Lynn was going through better than I ever would because she’d gone through something similar when her mom had walked out of her life as a kid.

She’d made sure we included Lynn in the search for the perfect house for all three of us to move into together. And she’d insisted we wait to get married until Lynn was ready to be our flower girl. It was a damn good thing it hadn’t taken my daughter long to get excited about the wedding because I was chomping at the bit to make Carrie my wife. And the moment had finally come.

      “Who gives this bride away?”

      “I do,” her father answered.

I stepped forward to take Carrie’s hand and offered her dad a heartfelt smile. We’d gotten to know each other fairly well and he approved of me, but I figured today was hard for him because I couldn’t imagine how I’d handle it when my baby girl was all grown up and getting married. The smile he gave me in return was genuine, but weaker than mine. He leaned forward and lifted Carrie’s veil, pressing a kiss to her cheek before stepping away.

Carrie’s fingers clenched against mine, and she moved to my side before we turned to face the pastor who was officiating the wedding. “We’d better get this show on the road,” my bride-to-be urged in a low voice. “Or else I’m going to puke while we’re exchanging vows because whoever called it morning sickness is a big, fat liar.”

We fell in love quick. Our wedding was the fastest I’d ever attended. But I wouldn’t have had it any other way, and I owed it all to the infamous boom.

      About the Author

I absolutely adore reading—always have and always will. When I was growing up, my friends used to tease me when I would trail after them, trying to read and walk at the same time. If I have downtime, odds are you will find me reading or writing.

I am the mother of two wonderful sons who have inspired me to chase my dream of being an author. I want them to learn from me that you can live your dream as long as you are willing to work for it.
