      Acknowledgments

This is a collection of poems of mine that gives a message or conveys a lesson to the reader.

Dr. Samantha Kulatilake, thank you for being my guidance and mentor in my path of poetry.

Oshika Vidushini, an artist herself, read my early poems and encouraged me to write more by giving topics and pictures.

Darlene Harasymiw is a one good friend who edited some of my poems and pushed me to write more.

Chiemi Hettiarachchi, my friend and my editor, gave me lot of strength to achieve this much.

Pabalu Thriemavithana Yalagama, thanks for the ideas and encouragement.

Nalin De Abrew for editing and finalizing.

De Abrew family for all the support.

Siri Nissanka (grandfather), without you, I would be nothing.

      A God under a Woman's Skin

      December 28, 2012 at 3:25pm

Held you fine, taken care of before giving you the birth

Endured the pain, not a single for you to sense on the earth

Taught you to stand, without an aid beyond the surface

Defended from the evil, breaking them down in to pieces

She wakes up before the sun light touches the ground

Prepare your stuff before the cock crows sound aloud

Even before her work, others work was the number one

After done that all, she does her every work all alone

You get sick; she is always there to comfort your feeling

Take good care, won’t let you go until you complete healing

When she is sick; she won’t let you know what she is dealing

Silently endure, without even putting anyone else the blaming

We have this; we have that, so many excuses to put away things

She has tons of work, but she does everything before the sun sinks

Even after work, she finds her time to read you bed time stories

Finally she closed her eyes, way long after everyone starts snoring

      Adolf Hitler the Artist

      December 22, 2012 at 11:49am

      Please sir!

      Accept my apologies

      I will try so hard

To paint it as it is

      You reject me once

      You reject me twice

      I don’t have money

      To try another time

      Well of course, it’s me

      I have my own style

      Architect you might say

      But that’s not my type

      Why are you so rude?

      It is just one mark

I guess you have no clue

      What is going to start?

      Art is not a statue

To give it such a value

No one can ever buy it

      To make their own rules

      You did say

      “My unfitness to paintings”

      I should ask first

“What is your right to say it?”

      One day you will see,

Not my paintings but my frenzy

      Then perhaps you would agree

What I become will not be what you could’ve foreseen

      Death Cannot Wait

      September 20, 2013 at 1:22pm

      Knock, knock

      Who is it?

      The high commissioner

      Wait a minute

      Knock, knock

      Who is it?

      The mayor

      Wait a minute

      Knock, knock

      Who is it?

      The president

      Wait a minute

      Knock, knock

      Who is it?

      Death

      And death cannot wait

      Dreams

      December 14, 2013 at 9:11pm

      Don’t dream about a house

      Dream about a home

      Don’t dream about a vehicle

      Dream about a path

      Don’t dream about a job

      Dream about work

      Don’t dream about a girl

      Dream about a good wife

      Don’t dream about a prize

      Dream about the result

      Don’t dream about money

      Dream about wealth

      Don’t dream about votes

      Dream about kindness

      Don’t dream about your future

Dream about what’s good for the children

      Fight for Nothing!

      November 21, 2012 at 9:42pm

When I was born, I was born with a lot of dreams

Never thought that I had to leave this world like this

Was it me that who started all these miseries?

It can’t be, I wasn’t even here for more than few weeks

You blew me up; you blew my friends, right up in to the sky

You blew my dreams; you blew them all, all away to fly

What makes you right? Why I was wrong? I was only a child

He knows who is right, who is wrong, and you cannot hide

What are you searching? Why are you killing each other for?

Was it land, religion or the nation what worth dying for?

Was it color, race or the culture what you looking for?

Will this change or would it be the reason people suffer for?

Well I see, I see all, there’s nothing you could bring up here

Don’t you see or don’t you know? That nothing lasts forever

What you see, what you do, will matter who comes next here

Those who fight, those who kill will go down but not here

I’ll make it simple, I’ll make it straight, for people those who fight

A day would come, definitely come; you would say I was right

What's worth the most, what you love, never leave them aside

Your time will come, for you to say goo
d-bye. So do, turn back and smile

      Good-bye!

      December 30, 2012 at 1:29pm

      Here I say goodbye!

To all my family and friends

I had a great time with you

      More than anyone could say

I say goodbye to all my brothers

I’m a trouble you might say

You are the ones I always mingle

Always there for me to be safe

I say goodbye to my sweet sisters

I wish I could stay another day

Your sweet love is always a symbol

To the world of corrupt who is looking for a prey

I say goodbye to my loved ones

You gave me all the love I could pray

You would say I’m ignorant. But,

All your love anchored on my heart bay

Here I say goodbye to everyone

      Everyone of who stayed

      Give my regards to everyone

Before they tell me goodbye at the end

He Who Walked Towards the Heaven's Door

      December 23, 2012 at 8:47pm

      He walked around the street

      With a huge smile

      Without a pair of slippers

      He ran through the rain

      No sign of a trouble

      Without an umbrella

He shared his piece of bread

      With a hungry dog

      Without having anything for dinner

      He gave his only towel

      To a naked woman

      Without thinking another second

      He gave his hand

      For the poor blind man

      To cross the busiest road

      He gave his strength

      For the cheapest lend

      Only to stay alive

      He went door to door

      Ask work from the people

Seems like nobody cares, for sure

      He pleaded man to man

      ‘Give me something to have

Need to fight with the fire inside’

      He had nothing

      But a huge smile

      Morning to night

      He had his time

      It wasn’t hard to find

      A big golden door

      He walked towards the door

Still without a pair of slippers

      Heaven knows where he goes

      Hi and Bye!

      July 6, 2013 at 7:31pm

      Hi!

      My name is life

      No one really knows

      Where did I come from

      Some people don’t know

      What to do with me

      Some people don’t know

      How to use me

      It really doesn’t matter

      Where I come from

      What does matter

Where would you lead me to

      After all

      I would say one word

      To everyone I know

      Goodbye!

      I Pray for Love

      December 16, 2012 at 4:32pm

I pray for a world where no one cares about color

Replace all the barbed wires with plants of flower

A world without doors, everyone to travel

Live under one flag, everyone together

No differences for those who feel starvation

No race with people who have the same conclusion

Treat women like your sisters, give them protection

No one has to fear when there is no corruption

I pray for people to take care of each other

When they have troubles to stand up for another

Look after the other like your own brother

If you are together, you don’t have to suffer

No names for the land, where all humans stand

No fight for the flag, when everybody needs a hand

No killing for power, or young ones to suffer

No more violence, treat her like your own mother

I pray for the children to plan their future

Not to destroy it from the useless matter

Life is long, such a long path to travel

Don’t waste time on those who wrestle

Time is running out, it is not coming back

If you missed the train, another won’t come back

Enjoy the moment with an open mind

Once you are ready, it is your turn to drive

I pray for love, love to be the guide

Guide for all of us to put bad things aside

Love every color, what matters is what is inside

Replace our vengeance with love, so we can smile

If I Had another Day to Live

      November 24, 2012 at 5:12pm

If I had another day to live

Could have seen the sun rising up, for the one last time

Could have felt the rain, dripping all over my face

Could have felt the wind, waving my hair

Trees all around me, dancing to the beat of my heart

Birds fly above me, singing for me to step in to the air

Could have listened well to the songs of nature

And never corrupt her knowing that is my future

Could have gone out and make some new friends

Meet some new people that I have never met

Learn new cultures, traditions and language

Could have found an ‘amigo’ instead of a ‘friend’

Say ‘Hello!’ to a stranger and wish him a good day

Smile at the person who I never looked in the face

I could have said sorry to the fat boy I always bully

To tell him I was wrong and that it’s not really funny

Could have gone for the prayers, with my family together

Sat and pray for the people, who were gone forever

Could have gone to the grounds, with my friends together

Play and run around, and have some fun together

Could have made some more time to spend with my grandpa

And let him know that there is someone to take care

And when at night, listen to the stories of my grandma

Make her laugh, make her happy and give her time to spare

Could have told my papa ‘I really don’t hate you’

Even though I left you, I am still your lovely child

Tell my mama, I always had her in my heart

Not even a single day I wanted her to be apart

Could have had time to tell how much I loved my brother

And let him know that I won’t be there to make some trouble

Tell my sister I always truly missed her

Tell that her it’s ok. She can always have my collection

I could have seen my babies smile

Together with their beautiful brown eyes

Could have spent one more time to hear their cries

Cuddle them up so that they can sleep fine

I could have told my lover, sweet little lies

Could have spent a night slowing down the time

Low lights and some wine, it’s all going to be fine

Pushing all the things aside, just you and me all night

If I had another day to live

I would not forget to love those who loved me

      Never miss a mome
    nt of this wonderful time

I would save every second to keep me alive

      In High Places

      July 23, 2012 at 12:31am

      A red kite,

      High in the sky

      Floating alone,

      Showing the pride

      Suddenly a crack,

      Detach from the line

      It hit the ground,

      Licking salty sand

      It smells like mud,

      Putting all the pride aside

In Search of Fastest Thing in the World!

      January 30, 2014 at 4:58pm

As a child, I had this interesting idea

To seek what is the fastest thing.

So I’ve learnt, it was sound.

      But, later it was light!

      After days passed,

      In TIME,

      I found it.

      Truth is within.

      Look into a mirror!

      If you want the truth.

What's the fastest of them all,

Not a thing. But it is also unstoppable!

      It Ends With a Cry

      November 11, 2012 at 8:04pm

      When it starts

      It starts with a cry

      Screaming and kicking

      When you feel the warmth

      It calm you down

      Comfy and sleepy

      When you feel hungry

      Turned red to white

      Kindness and love

      When you were ready

Helped you to make the first step

      Nice and slowly

      When you grew up

      You learnt things about

      Good and bad

      When you had pride

      You forgot about people who

      Cared and helped

      And when it ends

      It ends with a cry

      Screaming and kicking

      Like My Chauffeur Does

      July 1, 2013 at 8:41pm

      Guy: ‘I love you!’

Girl: ‘Do you have a BMW?’

      Guy: ‘No. I don’t’

      Girl: ‘Oh, I’m sorry’

      Guy:

      ‘Oh?

      It’s ok

      I understand

I don’t have a BMW that you seek

Or the house with a pool that you can swim

Beachside lounge to have a sunbath

Levi’s glass to shield from the sun

Clean suit of BOSS for everyday work

Lacoste perfume to always smell good

Mephisto shoes to make a good move

Rolex watch to be there on time when I summoned,

      Like my chauffeur does’

Girl: ‘Ah, I love you, I love you, please I do!’

      Guy: ‘Oh, I’m sorry’

      Love Is a Lie

      October 7, 2013 at 4:17pm

      All these years

I have tasted so many beers

      But none of them

      Tasted love

      I’ve searched every corner

      I’ve asked every person

      But none of them

      Never knew love

      I’ve been to Taj Mahal

And heard the story of Jahan

      Is that what

      You call, love?

      Some say it’s a symbol

      Where two hearts get connected

      But in real,

      Do they mind?

      Some say it’s a finding

      Each other, understanding

      But will they

      Willing to forgive?

And you think you are proud

      For what you have done

      But finally,

      Will you regret?

      So, I’ve really found now

      What I dearly searched for

      All the time,

      Love is a lie

      No Matter What

      October 21, 2012 at 12:39pm

No matter what color we are,

No matter what religion we believe,

No matter what region we live,

No matter what language we speak,

No matter what position we hold,

      No matter male or female,

      We breathe the same air

      We drink the same water

      We eat the same food

We stand on the same soil

We were driven by the same blood

We are under the same Sun

And we hold the same right to live on this planet

      We are all one

      We are all the same

      We are all equal

      Noah's Ark

      December 16, 2012 at 1:01pm

      Men:

Why build a boat, there is no rain out there?

Why work so hard, there is no hint of a cloud?

Why the gopher wood? Why the cubit upward?

Why door on the east? Why float four directions?

Why in pairs? Why all in one?

Why not all and why not others?

Why 300 long and 50 wide?

Why 60 high and why no more?

Why in three stories? Why not one?

Why wild ones on the lower deck?

Why domestic on the middle deck?

Why males and humans on the upper?

      Noah:

Why so many questions, what do you care?

There is no time for me to spare

When the time comes I would dare

You would come inside and like to share
